Building a Personal Relationship with God: My Spiritual Awakening

For many, the idea of connecting with God feels tied to religious practices, rituals, and rules. I used to believe this too. But my spiritual awakening revealed something far more intimate—a truth that had been within me all along. My relationship with God was never something external to be sought; it was a presence woven into my very being, simply waiting to be nurtured.

 Recognizing the Connection

Growing up in a religious environment, I was taught that reaching God required strict adherence to rules and structured practices. Yet, even in those moments, I always felt something deeper—a quiet, yet strong connection to something way bigger than me.

At the time, I didn’t have the words to describe it. But looking back, I realize that this connection was never something I needed to earn or prove. It was always there, patiently waiting for me to acknowledge it. This realization marked the true beginning of my spiritual journey: the shift from looking outward for God to recognizing that the Divine presence had always been within me.

Breaking Free from Rules

One of the most liberating aspects of my awakening was releasing the belief that my connection with God depended on following rules. This wasn’t about rejecting religion—it was about stepping into a deeper truth: spirituality is not about obligation; it’s about relationship.

Instead of constantly asking, “Am I doing this right?” I began to ask, “What feels true to my spirit?” This shift transformed my experience. No longer confined by external expectations, I could finally allow my personal relationship with the Divine to flourish in an authentic and meaningful way; talk about freedom!

Discovering a Deeper Understanding

As I leaned into this inner connection, I realized that spirituality is not about perfection or performance—it’s about presence.

The Divine speaks in stillness, in intuition, in moments of clarity that seem to arrive just when you need them. The more I quieted external noise, the more I could hear the subtle yet profound voice within. And with every moment of trust, I felt a deeper sense of peace and alignment, though trusting it consistently was another journey in its own

Lessons from the Journey

Along this path, I’ve learned some transformative lessons that may resonate with you:

1. God is Always Speaking

The Divine communicates in countless ways—through intuitive nudges, synchronicities, moments of insight, and even challenges. The key is not to seek harder but to listen more deeply.

2. Rules Don’t Define Connection

While religious practices can be meaningful, they are not the only way to experience God. True connection comes from the heart, not a checklist. You don’t have to earn God’s love—it already exists within you.

3. Your Journey is Unique

There is no one-size-fits-all path to spirituality. What resonates for someone else may not be your truth—and that’s okay. Your relationship with the Divine is personal and sacred in its own way.

4. Trust Your Inner Voice

That subtle inner knowing—the quiet nudge, the feeling of being guided—is not just intuition. It is the voice of the Divine within you. Trust it, even when it challenges what you’ve been taught.
